About the University
Currently, NNGASU is one of the leading architectural and construction universities in Russia. It has 4,742 full-time students and 5,225 part-time students. The research and teaching staff consists of 560 high school teachers, including 63 professors and 285 doctors.
NNGASU consists of 2 institutes, 4 faculties: Institute of Business Technologies; Interdisciplinary Institute of Advanced Training and Retraining; General Technical Faculty, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Systems and Structures; Faculty of Civil Engineering. In addition, the University has a Center for International Education and Cooperation, as well as a Department for Training Scientific and Pedagogical Personnel.
The students of the University are provided with 4 dormitories, a swimming pool, and gyms. Health improvement of students is carried out on the basis of the sanatorium, and in summer – in the health and sports camp “Chkalovets” on the Nizhny Novgorod reservoir.
NNGASU is one of the major Russian research centers in the field of architecture, urban planning, construction sciences, and environmental engineering. The range of research activities of the University is implemented in 13 branches of science, the University has 18 scientific and pedagogical schools that combine 91 scientific areas of departments.
The University staff actively participate in the implementation of research works funded from the state budget and grants of scientific foundations: “Scientific and pedagogical personnel of innovative Russia for 2009-2013”, “Development of scientific potential of higher school”, grants of the Russian Academy of Education, scientific programs of Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences, grants from Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), grants from RFBR-Volga region. In addition, in the competition between classical universities a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for state support of young Russian scientists - doctors in the field of physics and astronomy, has been won.
NNGASU has been the founder of the “Volga scientific journal” since 2006.
The international cooperation of NNGASU in the field of science and education is developing dynamically. The foreign partners of NNGASU are UNESCO, the UN University, the International Ocean Institute (IOE), Higher Education Institutions and Research Institutions in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Serbia, and China.
Scientists, employees, postgraduates and students of the University participated in a number of international projects. The largest of them are the Russian-German research program “Volga-Rhine” (jointly with the universities of Karlsruhe, Heidelberg and Hanover), the UNESCO international project “Sustainable development of the Volga and Caspian sea basins”; the European Commission project “CABRI – cooperation in the large river basin: institutional coordination of partners for managing environmental risks in the Volga river basin”; the Tempus educational project “Creation of the international Institute of Economics, Law and Management in Nizhny Novgorod” (jointly with the Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany and the Netherlands); the innovative student project “District of Tomorrow” on the basis of the University of Zuyd (Holland) together with universities in Germany and Belgium, etc.
NNGASU is one of the organizers of the International Scientific and Industrial Forum “Great Rivers”, which has been held annually since 1999 in Nizhny Novgorod at the all-Russian exhibition center “Nizhny Novgorod fair”. The forum is dedicated to the problems of sustainable development of countries and people in the great river basins – the centers of world civilization, the creation of new forms of international and interregional partnerships. The “Great Rivers” Forum continues to steadily strengthen its authority and earn new high ratings from the world expert community. The international exhibition audit recognized the forum as the best regional exhibition event in Russia on the theme “environmental protection” in all categories: “International Recognition”, “Professional Interest”, “Market Coverage” and “Exhibition Space”.
The active participation in Russian and international scientific and educational projects contributes to improving the quality indicators of the University. Innovative projects of scientists from the University have been winning gold and silver medals at the world salon of innovation, research and new technologies.
According to the results of the “European quality” competition in 2004, 2005, 2009 NNGASU was recognized as a prize-winner in the category “Top -100 universities of Russia” with the award of a gold medal. In 2010, the University was recognized as a winner of the competition “100 best organizations in Russia in the field of science and education” with the award of a gold medal.
Currently, the University implements more than a hundred educational programs, and a number of them are annually awarded the best ratings at the national level. Thus, the NNGASU educational programs “Construction”, “Architecture” and “Industrial and civil construction” were recognized as the “Best educational programs in innovative Russia” in 2010. In 2016, they included 11 educational programs of the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and at the beginning of 2017 - 18 programs.
Many NNGASU graduates work in administrative and state bodies, research institutes, design and production organizations, as well as they continue their studies in foreign scientific and educational organizations.
